To Cleanse Or Not To Cleanse Acne Prone Skin

Have you ever wondered whether to cleanse or not to cleanse your acne prone skin?
Well with all the information out there on whether cleansing actually helps or make the situation worst, this question is quite valid. If you have acne prone skin you might have heard somewhere that the problem is not caused by not cleansing the skin. Now even if this is the case most acne sufferer would say that if they do not cleanse the face the condition seems to get worse. This may be a case of 'mind over matter' but when it comes to acne I believe that cleansing is key to effective management.
How does cleansing improve the skin
Cleansing gets rid of unwanted debris and environmental pollutants that may have lodged on the surface of the skin and in the pores, blocking the pores and preventing oils from escaping to the surface. When we clean our skin we allow for proper aeration and the prevention of clogged pores. Cleansing also removes excess dirt that may play a role in the buildup of bacteria that contribute to inflammation and acne breakouts. Hence cleansing improves the skin by creating a clean area that does not promote acne development.
Added benefits of cleansing
We cleanse the face so as to control acne. But additionally, cleansing also improves the look of the skin. If cleansing is done using a facial scrub, this results in a more youthful glowing appearance. Facial scrubs exfoliate the dead skin and make way for newer more radiant skin to be seen on the surface. So in addition to fighting acne cleansing also polishes the skin improving its overall appearance.

When to cleanse?

This question may come up at some time or the other, the question of when is the appropriate time to cleanse the face. My simple answer to this is to cleanse as often as is required. This answer works best for everyone since some persons have oily skin and may feel the need to wash the face 3 or 4 times per day. In this case as long as the face is not over drying, it makes you feel comfortable and more clean then do it. In other cases persons need to follow the twice a day rule, once morning and once at nights before going to bed. The regimen of cleansing this way is ideal for most persons since it does not cause undue drying and the face is sufficiently cleaned on a daily basis. In other cases it may be justified to cleanse the face once a day or once every other day. This approach would specifically work for persons with dry skin where too much cleansing may actually cause over drying of the skin.

So if you are wondering whether to cleanse or not to cleanse the face, it might be more important to wonder how often you should cleanse and with what products you should use. Since cleaning is very important in dealing with acne prone skin.
